Operation 2C1D complete!
Over the weekend while I was in San Diego, I was able to knock “swimming in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in the same day” off my life list. Once I landed at the San Diego airport, I grabbed my bag, picked up my rental car, and headed to check-in at my Hotel in the Gaslamp.  After a quick bite to eat and deciding on which beach to hit up, I settled in on Imperial Beach near the...

Operation 2C1D
Im going to let you guys in on something ive always wanted to do…. Its one of those things on my (ever growing) “bucket list.”  The idea is to swim in the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean in the same day and im calling it Operation 2 Coasts 1 Day, or Operation 2C1D for short.  Like all other bucket list ideas, im pretty excited to accomplish this one.  Being that I live in a...

Beat jet lag with fasting →
For anyone who travels a fair amount, we can probably all agree that jet lag can make you feel like you did shots of melatonin at the bar after landing at the airport.  This article covers a new study by U.S. researchers at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on how fasting for 16 hours after a long flight can reset your internal clock as though it is the...

Powder Mountain - Ogden, Utah
Back in January, a couple friends and I flew out to Utah in search of untouched powder.  We stayed in a condo for a week and had a time of our lives.  Here are a few pictures from the trip….. Looking down on the rest of the resort.  Yes, you can board ALL of that. See that tip in the top right?  Thats where I started. Taking a break after boot-packing up to the top of James Peak. ...

2011 Audi Quattro.... concept?
Im a huge Audi fan.  Even though I prefer to drive trucks and am slightly over my Audi A4 2.0T with Quattro, when I heard about the 2011 Audi Quattro concept rumored to go in to production, I couldnt help but dream about driving one around the mountainous curvy roads of the Blue Ridge Parkway…. within the speed limit (sometimes).  Anyways, here is a narrated promo video for this...

I am a Motherf#!ker
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you should have heard of the “Epic Beard Man” (aka Tom Slick aka Vietnam Tom) and the fight beating he gave some random guy on a bus who kept talking trash and pushing the issue.  He is also know as the “I Am A Motherfucker” t-shirt guy (hence the title of the post).  Well, I stumbled on a short Youtube...

Chasing Speckled Trout
This is a report for Saturday, November 13th. Today, Andrew and I met up at a little before noon to set out and see if we could catch some keeper size (14”+) speckled trout.  Lately, we’ve slayed the smaller trout… I mean literally.  Id say between us we’ve caught over 100.  Which is fun and also a good sign for next years trout fishing.  However, its not so good when...

Gulp!
Joe Cermele recently wrote an article for his (and John Merwin’s) blog, The Honest Angler, over on Field and Stream.com, titled “Dr. Gulp’s most frequently-asked questions.”  Some of the questions are questions ive always wondered about, which is why this particular article really sparked my interest. Remember back in ’88 when a new trout dough called PowerBait showed...

Chernobyl Legacy
This might be a little old for some of you, but it fascinates me every time I see it.  Photojournalist, Paul Fusco, chronicles such an incredible disaster that didnt happen too long ago but feels as though it is forgotten.  http://inmotion.magnumphotos.com/essay/chernobyl

SURVIVE NORFOLK!
Well, incase you havent heard, Survive Norfolk is a slightly more elaborate game of tag involving Zombies and Survivors.  Basically, the game is made up of a few key “players;” agents (to keep zombies/survivors honest/safe), and then the zombies and survivors.  Survivors start at a centrally located base, scour around looking for the four checkpoints they MUST check-in at, and then...

Thats why its called fishing and not catching
The fall fishing streak continues with a little mixed bag.  Here are a few pics of what happend in our fishing world. Last Tuesday Andrew, Alex, and Mark went out to catch the strong NE wind that was supposed to blow through.  Unfortunately, I couldnt make the trip b/c I had games to tend to.  As the story was told, Alex (below) caught his fish within the first 30 mins on casting out.  His...

Catching up with the catch
You’ll have to excuse my tardiness on keeping this updated.  The last couple weeks have been busy.  To bring you all up to date, i’ve been doing A LOT of fishing the past few weeks.  Here’s some pictures and the story.. Its finally fall and along with the cool winds and color changing leaves, it also means great fishing.  Especially for the big bull red drum that migrate out of...

WatchWatch
Extreme weather phenomenons have always interested me ever since I was a little boy growing up in Mississippi three blocks from the Gulf of Mexico and have watched many hurricanes come and go. When my dad came back from Operation Desert Storm in Somalia back in the early 90’s, he’d tell me stories of the sand/dust storms over there and how they were a pain in the butt to deal with....

Welcome, Channel Bass!
Channel Bass, Red Drum, Red Fish, Puppy drum, whatever you want to call them… they are officially on the move and preparing to head South for the winter.  Went out to Cape Henry last night to try my luck.  Once I got there, I noticed huge schools of mullet swimming around, which only means some thing is around eating them.  So I rigged up a chunk of mullet (that I purchased at the local...

Show 'n' Shine 2010
Last year, my friend, Ed Ketz, (who works for BAE Shipyard) finally got the go-ahead from the higher ups to put on a car show in the shipyards main parking lot.  The show had such a good turnout, that they granted him the OK to host the car show annually with much (if not all) of the proceeds going to the American Warrior Fund.  For the first show I was given the privilege to work as a volunteer...

Pocket full of notes
Im one of those guy that like to carry around a small notebook in my back pocket.  Its an old fashioned habit that I picked up from my dad back in my teens.  With today’s technology, most phones come with a “notepad” feature, and although I use the one on my iPhone from time to time, to me its hard to beat the good old fashioned pen and pad.  I use mine for random ideas,...

Tradition: Pocket Knives
Whatever happened to the old tradition of carrying a pocket knife with you in the pocket of your blue jeans?  Depending on what my plans are for the day, ill usually carry a small pocket knife with me since it comes in pretty handy.  Though, If its a night on the town with some friends and grabbing a few beers, ill probably leave it at home.  Below Im showcasing my go-to “daily”...

Hello, Earl
Time to start battening down the hatches, or atleast prepare to.  As of this morning, Earl is now a Cat4 with 145mph winds and causing considerable damage to the islands around San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Its still a little early to tell exactly where this storm is going to end up and how strong it will be when/if it hits U.S. soil, but it is projected to at least brush the coast of Virginia Beach...

Healthcare reform?
Not bored enough to read the incredibly long health reform bill thats set to take place in 2014?  Now, normally I wouldnt post something like this, however, admittedly I havent and dont care to read the entire healthcare bill simply b/c I dont have time to.  I mean, who does? So if you’re like me and not exactly sure how it will affect you and your current insurance (or lack therof?), have...

Open Season: Hurricanes
We’re in that time of year again to start planning for hurricanes and tornados.  I’ve already started seeing the “Hurricane Preparation Map” pamphlets at the check out at local grocery stores, and even the news has started doing their special coverages.  Last night they were talking about how it will take up to 36 or more hours to totally evacuate the Hampton Roads area. ...
